HOLA and WELCOME!

My name’s Brandon Hugo Arroyo (or BH for short), I’m a NuyoRican filmmaker and founder of Giant Island Entertainment. The central question with-in my work is this: How do we make sense of ourselves through the stories we inherit, the stories we’re told, and the stories we choose to believe?

As a storyteller, I focus on themes of identity, vulnerability, relationships, culture, and wonder. All with an interest to play with genres such as drama, adventure, action, fantasy, mystery, thriller, stop motion animation and dark fairytales. Quite the playground if you ask me.

As a tool, I believe filmmaking has the power to create discourse, inspire critical thinking and engage audiences through the use of story experiences and escapism. Bringing people together on a shared journey of personal reflection and bonding. That means, I want to make the BIG Blockbusters as much as I want to make the indie, no budget, art house films.

My goal with Giant Island is to build a body of work that blends realism and myth, root it in culture, and drive it with emotion. Designed to connect.

Besides writing & making movies, I enjoy shooting social and commercial work that engages with people on platforms such as Youtube, TikTok, Instagram, etc.

FUN FACTS

#1: When I’m older, I plan on opening a traveling lending library where families and children of the community can visit for story hour. Super fun, right? I wish I could take all the credit, but really the inspiration came from my Bori Idol - Pura Belpré: The First Puerto Rican Librarian in New York City. Didn’t think you’d learn something new did you?

#2:  Important to note that my favorite film, the one that inspired me to make movies, is actually “Pans Labyrinth”. I’ll tell you about how I brought this up to Del Toro in person, I promise.

#3: You know Bruce Lee? Well, I train in his Martial Art “Jeet Kune Do” and have learned a lot about life through the art. Will happily discuss more about how I’m a 3rd Generation Bruce Lee student and how I’m learning to be like water.
